Happy Memorial Day! Despite what the calendar says, it is now officially summer as far as I’m concerned. For one, we are hitting the 90 degree mark today. The humidity rolled in a while ago and I have a feeling it will be here to stay. Today is Memorial Day, which means the swimming pools are open and crowds are gathering at the beach. Already busted out the Old Bay and mom made her irresistible homemade Maryland crab cakes.
My parent’s backyard symbolizes the epitome of summer for me. A relaxing oasis of endless flora and fauna. A place to lay in the sun or build a fire under the stars. Sometimes an outdoor living space can feel more like home than one would expect.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend and day off!
To my momma, you are one classy, hardworking, amazing woman. To be half of what you are would be more than I could ever wish for. I’m always proud to say, I got it from my momma! And to all the mommas out there, you ROCK!
Last night I celebrated with my brother and his friends his recent accomplishment of purchasing his very first place. The condo is located only a few blocks from the Washington National’s stadium and has incredible views of the Capitol and Washington Monument. There really isn’t anything quite like the DC skyline, is there?
One of my favorite places in the world (so far!) is Bermuda. It will probably always have a special place in my heart because I was introduced to this amazing island at such a young age and have visited again and again. I love its British roots and real sense of community. Fun fact! You can’t live in Bermuda unless you are an island native or marry a Bermudian. This makes me sad. But it’s probably best I keep it as a favorite getaway instead.
These photos were taken on my most recent trip in 2009, soon after returning home from Italy. At the time I don’t think I fully appreciated this trip because I was still recovering from study abroad withdrawal, but looking through these photos now gives me only sweet memories and a longing to go back. With summer growing nearer and nearer each day, I can’t help but daydream about tropical places and endless summer days.
You’re an angel.
And a saint.
And altogether otherworldly.
And no childhood memory will be,
Without thoughts of my beautiful, orange kitty.
My baby, in loving memory.
