We headed back to where it all started for some fall family portraits. Leesylvania State Park is now a fan favorite and one of these days I’ll explore the grounds a little deeper. We all braved the cold like rockstars. Especially Madeline, who was more charming than ever with her sweet smile and polka dot boots. And as the sun set and the temperature dropped, the animal hat emerged. Cue cuteness overload.
She’s gonna find another way back home
It’s written in her blood, oh it’s written in her bones
Yeah, she’ll only be bound by the things she chooses
“I am losing precious days. I am degenerating into a machine for making money. I am learning nothing in this trivial world of men. I must break away and get out into the mountains to learn the news.” John Muir
Arrows pointing nowhere in particular.
Without a doubt, fall is my favorite season. Fall is also only four days away according to the calendar. Which means I’m getting pretty giddy over here. The sudden drop in temperature over the weekend might just be a tease, but I’m not looking back. The sundresses and strappy sandals have been put away and the leather jackets have been moved upfront and center.
Above, fall colors reflected in the Four Mile Run River remind me just how beautiful this season is. Can’t wait to see all these colors oh-so soon!
What a gorgeous day today. I hit up all my favorite spots on the bike trail including Reagan airport to watch the planes take off. It’s such a great feeling to fly past all the cars sitting in rush hour traffic. Also! When did all the biker babes come out of hibernation?! And runners? Where have you been living and working and hanging out? Man oh man, you make it hard to pay attention. Maybe if I crash it would be our perfect meet cute. No? Okay, I guess not.
With only one month left living in NOVA, it saddens me to think that I will no longer be within a ten mile radius of my favorite restaurant. Favorite restaurant in the whole wide world. Rustico, you feed my soul. Literally. Last night I stopped by for a burger and fries and was once again reminded why you are my favorite.
These photos are from last fall after my brother completed the Marine Corps Marathon. Boston bib salad and fig and prosciutto pizza. So many celebrations have happened at Rustico, including my own graduation lunch. I can even remember the very first time my brother introduced us years ago. Dinner was fantastic, but I was won over by a mandarin orange cheesecake dessert. I was never the same again.
